Residencia en Gijón
The expatriate client wanted a densely planted informal garden for his residence on the outskirts of Gijon that would provide interest year-round. The varied climatic and environmental conditions in different areas of the garden provided the opportunity of creating distinct themes with adaptive planting.
The tree-shaded front area was designated as a ‘forest garden’ rich with ferns and plants that emphasise structure. The sun drenched back of the house with its heat-trapping quarry wall provided the opportunity of selecting tender colourful Mediterranean plants. The windswept area north of the house features typical Asturian prairie plants. Colourful bulbs are planted throughout to add seasonal colour and interest.
